Is Your Doctor Deceiving You?

This article is an excerpt taken from HealingDaily.com
Most likely yes, but is it really his fault?

According to the American Heart Association, about 62 million Americans have some form of cardiovascular disease, which can include high blood pressure, coronary heart disease (heart attack and chest pain), stroke, birth defects of the heart and blood vessels, and congestive heart failure, and close to a million die from such conditions every year.
heart disease

Heart disease is by far the #1 killer in the U. S, although 1/3 of those deaths could be prevented if people exercised more and followed better diets, the American Heart Association said in an annual report.

Cardiovascular disease kills more Americans than the next 7 causes of death combined - including cancer - the AHA report states. Overall, slightly more females than males have cardiovascular disease. Heart disease accounted for 40% of all deaths in the U. S. in 1999.(1)

Wouldn't it be interesting if almost 1/2 of all deaths (those from heart disease) could be delayed, in good health, to a later time in life - then from some other cause?

The truth is that 150 years ago, heart disease was completely unheard of. Almost no one died from heart disease 150 years ago. The truth is that heart disease is a new disease. Even though the average length of life 150 years ago was much less than it is now, there were millions of people who did live past 60 years of age. They lived long enough to get heart disease - but they didn't get it. None of those people died of heart disease even when they lived to be in their 70s.

Perhaps the greatest evil connected with the problem of heart disease is that certain powerful drug interests deliberately suppress the truth - these are the groups which stand to benefit the most from your illness from heart disease. There is nothing as profitable to a drug company as a patient who is forced to take some drug for the rest of his life - heart medications fit in that category.

These drug interests have manipulated medical education so that even your doctor is completely ignorant of the value of other therapies. Your doctor is almost as much a victim as his patients.

There is an explanation for the terrible mis-information you get from doctors. The drug interests are eager for his prescription business. That explanation starts with the education your doctor has received. That education got corrupted many years ago. Less than 2% of a Harvard Medical School student's time is spent studying preventive medicine, and only a small part of that time is spent on nutrition.

Bypass surgery for heart disease

You may have been told, and you may believe that..."bypass surgery or drugs are your only answers, and that they are effective."

That is not true!
The truth is that although the odds of surviving bypass surgery have improved since the operation was introduced, bypass surgery kills anywhere from 2% to 4% of the patients on the operating table, and more within a few months. The truth is that even respectable medical journals are now carrying articles that say that life expectancy does not increase after bypass surgery.
bypass surgery

It takes a great leap of faith to let someone crack open your chest and put you on a heart-lung machine while they attempt to correct blockages in your coronary arteries. It is actually quite an amazing piece of surgery, but in the vast majority of cases it is a classic example of traditional medicine doing too much, too late and not treating the CAUSE of the problem.

Part of the reason that bypass patients suffer from a mental decline - this change in intellectual abilities which occurs after bypass, which studies(2) have shown can affect 50% to 80% of people who have the surgery - is that the surgeon only repairs about 2 inches of their blood vessels. They do virtually nothing to address the cause of the hardening of the arteries.

The truth is that coronary bypass surgery consumes more of our medical dollar than any other treatment or procedure. Although it is performed less frequently than the most common abdominal and gynecological operations, bypass surgery is the leader in terms of equipment and personnel, hospital space, and total associated revenues, and thousands of doctors have gotten rich from doing them. It is not unusual for heart bypass surgery to cost $25,000, or even $50,000. They often come 'undone' within months or a few years. They are often repeated on the same patient.

A decade of scientific study has shown that except in certain well-defined situations, bypass surgery does not save lives: among patients who suffer from coronary-artery disease, those who are treated without surgery enjoy the same survival rates as those who undergo open-heart surgery. Yet many American physicians continue to prescribe surgery immediately upon the appearance of angina, or chest pain.

In our next blog post, we'll discuss how you can challenge the current medical standards and begin to place your life on the path to natural health, most likely avoiding heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and many other health issues.

Wellness or Sickness Treatment?

Chronic Disease is a major problem in US Healthcare today. More than 1/3rd of Americans have one or more chronic diseases including Heart Disease, Diabetes, and Cancer. The personal costs to patients and families are often severe and ongoing. The economic costs to society are almost $1 Trillion annually!

Heart Disease symptoms include High Blood Pressure, Arteriosclerosis (hardened arteries), Coronary Artery Obstruction, Angina and Heart Attacks. Most of these conditions represent a chain of events. These start to manifest through signs including High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, and Impotence in men (to name a few). Left untreated these symptoms will most likely lead to a heart attack or stroke.
Most cases of Diabetes develop from a pre-diabetic state which is also known as insulin resistance. Insulin….a hormone produced by the pancreas…..is necessary for cells to be able to absorb glucose from the blood stream and use the glucose for energy. If cells become glucose resistant, glucose stays in the blood stream, leading to a pre-diabetic condition. Left untreated pre-diabetes likely advances to diabetes, in which insulin resistance is combined with insulin depletion, as the pancreas loses it’s ability to produce this important hormone. Diabetes may lead to many severe problems, including  kidney  failure, and is a leading cause of death from heart failure.
Cancer is now becoming recognized as a chronic disease. Rather than being a mysterious disorder that occurs randomly, many cancers are now understood to have several  elements in common with other chronic diseases such as  diabetes and heart disease.
Pain is a common element to chronic disease. When affected by pain people often take daily pain medications. Most people become tolerant of their medications and require increasingly stronger doses. The pain of chronic disease is notoriously difficult to treat In recent years a holistic approach has been successfully applied in the treatment of heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
Wellness is not sickness treatment. It is a way of life. We are not sick because we are drug deficient, so taking drugs will not make us better in the long run. Sickness is a nutrition deficiency . So when we live life without being nutrition conscious and wait until we get sick and take drugs to make us better, we are simply treating symptoms which will do nothing more than prolong  the inevitable ( death ) while we lose our quality of life as we age and begin the process of dying in a nursing home or with no ability to walk, talk,  think, or see by the time we exit this life.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
We can be alive and well until we die.
The choice is yours.

Welcome to The Healing Stop!

Thank you for joining us at The Healing Stop!  We look forward to the journey that we are embarking on, the journey to good health and wellness.  Our goal is to provide the public with the truth about nutrition, heart health, and overall wellness.  If there is a topic that you would like learn more about, please post a comment and we will do our best to discuss it.

Today we'll start off with some basics.  The suggestions below may seem like common sense, but it's easy to get off track.  Sometimes we just need a little reminder to get us back on the path to wellness.

20 Steps to Weight Loss and Wellness
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.  Eat lots of fruit and vegetables. They’re full of fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and other phytonutrients that protect against disease.
2.  Avoid starches and sugars.  Bread, cereal, pasta, rice, desserts, and other starchy or sugary foods wreak havoc with your blood sugar, cause carbohydrate cravings, and are a major factor in America’s epidemic of obesity.
3.  Have a moderate-sized serving of protein at every meal. Skinless poultry, fish and seafood, and lean meat fill you up and tide you over and help with weight control.
4.  Include wild salmon and other fatty fish in your diet a couple of times a week.  Fatty fish are nature’s richest sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which reduce inflammation, nurture your brain, and protect against heart disease.
5.  Curb your consumption of fried foods and other unhealthy fats.  Deep fried foods are a nutritional landmine, loaded with calories and the most harmful type of fat known to science: trans fatty acids.
6.  Go easy on processed and packaged foods.  Most processed foods are stripped of nutrients and loaded with preservatives. Frozen peas and blueberries are one thing; toaster pastries and breaded chicken nuggets are another.
7.  Do not overeat.  Beware the monster portions served in restaurants and prepackaged foods — in many cases they contain twice as many calories as they did 25 years ago.
8.  Exercise regularly.  Half an hour of physical activity most days of the week is imperative for health and longevity. Nobody is so busy that they can’t carve out 30 minutes for a brisk walk.
9.  Include strength training in your exercise regimen.  We lose more than six pounds of muscle per decade after our twenties, and the only way to restore it is with weight training. Lean muscle mass not only improves strength and agility, but it also helps with weight control.
10. Maintain your ideal weight.  Obesity is on the verge of overtaking smoking as our leading cause of preventable death and disability. Everything we’ve discussed thus far will help you maintain your
ideal weight.
11. Drink at least eight glasses of water every day.  In addition to keeping you hydrated, water flushes out toxins, curbs appetite, and actually burns calories.
12. Get a good night’s sleep.  Inadequate sleep is linked with fatigue, poor concentration and memory, and increased risk of diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
13. Take a good daily multivitamin and mineral supplement.  Think of it as insurance to fill the holes in your daily diet. And don’t settle for a one-a-day brand — they do not contain high enough doses of crucial vitamins and minerals to ensure optimal health.
14. Look for alternatives to prescription drugs.  Prescription drugs, used exactly as directed, kill a minimum of 106,000 Americans every year. For every drug out there, there are safe, natural, and equally effective alternatives — not that you’ll hear about them from your doctor. Take control of your health and seek out alternatives.
15. Don’t smoke.  Lung cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, erectile dysfunction, wrinkles, premature death: Need more reasons to stop smoking?
16. Drink moderate amounts of alcohol, if you drink at all.  A drink or two a day lowers risk of heart disease and has other benefits. Excessive alcohol intake, however, is devastating to your health. And remember, about 10 percent of the population cannot handle alcohol and should stay away from it altogether.
17. Wash your hands often.  This is a simple but highly effective and often overlooked way to prevent colds, flu, and other infectious diseases.
18. Find an outlet to relieve stress.  Your body reacts to stress with the release of hormones that increase heart rate and blood pressure, mobilize blood sugar, tense the muscles, slow down digestion, and put the brain on hyper-alert. Whether you use breathing or relaxation techniques, meditation or yoga, it is imperative that you learn how to turn off this physiological response.
19. Challenge yourself mentally.  Use it or lose it also applies to your mental “muscles.” One of the best ways to reduce risk of dementia and keep your mind sharp throughout life is to stay mentally active. Play bridge, read and write, do crossword puzzles, learn a foreign language, take up the tango or a musical instrument — do something to stretch your mental muscles.
20. Never underestimate the importance of touch and sex.  Humans have a biological need for close body contact. If you don’t have a partner, hug your friends and acquaintances. If you don’t have any friends, get regular massages.

Hello & Welcome to our New Blog!

OUR MISSION - It is our mission in life to spread the word about living life to the fullest. Life starts in the blood and it’s through the blood that we receive life. It’s through that blood, by way of the heart - that life begins and ends.

My name is Deb Berg. I began my career in the insurance field and worked for many years in funeral homes helping dying folks and families who were losing their loved ones to death through disease by preplanning their funeral expenses. It was my job to help them prepare for the inevitable…DEATH. But many times that inevitable was premature and included unnecessary suffering.

After years of study and research I discovered a way I could help others improve their quality of life.  Along with a multitude of doctors and other nutritionally focused advocates we are now on a journey to do just that. My studies have revealed to me that our immune system is our cure and all we have to do is feed it.

We can gain wealth, fame, and success in this life, but without good health, none of it matters.
